Instead of pushing him out couldn't they of just made him wear a mask cos they can make good masks from doing all the aliens and stuff.

Remember in "All Good Things", Data had a streak of grey in his hair? I always thought the could say he was modifying his appereance to appear to grow older as his friends grow older, but I guess that is a bit far fetched. But just like that episode title indicates, All Good Things Come To An End.

I voted No for one reason, Data's ending in Nemesis was a well thought and and well written plot. Data had a huge role in Star Trek: The Next Generation and I couldn't see the show without him. I wouldn't want to wish him back to life, iIt would onlyruin his last moments. But do I miss him? Not really, In fact I don't miss any of the characters on any TV show because you can just watch reruns.

Data was unique. Both as a "person" and as a "life-form". Neither B-4 nor Lore had Data's balance and potential. So it seemed cavalier and almost criminal to kill him off in Nemesis. But, I've recently started to put Data's demise in a different perspective. Think of all the "dead red shirts" on various ST episodes, no matter the franchise. TOS killed off red shirts with reckless abandon compared to the other franchises. But, although we didn't know much about all those fate-ridden red shirts each presumably had a unique experience, unique life and unique future that was prematurely ended. Just like Data's. We'll miss Data MORE because we spent years getting to know Data, compared to the cannon-fodder of the week, but if we step into the Star Trek universe and say YES it ALL could be real, then every single life form that is prematurely ended is just as unique as Data was. His fate was no more and no less tragic than Darnell, the poor red shirt who was the first victim of the salt vampire in the TOS episode "Man Trap" -- the first episode produced after the pilot. Technically, I think Darnell was a "yellow shirt"...but I think he still deserves the honor of being the first dead red shirt

When a red shirt died, be it an orginal Red Shirt, or a moderne Red Shirt (You know, the Red Shirts who didnt actually wear red shirts in the post TOS series) I always try to imagine what a true sacrifice that is. For example, on Voyager, when those aliens were cloaked and running experiments on the crew, at the end befroe Janeway flew Voyager between to twin binary stars, one of the aliens killed a bridge officer. We hadent seen her before, and heard nothing more about it after it was over. However, one has to imagine that that officer recieved a memorial service just as important, and sad as Paris would have, or Enisgn Kim.
The one thing I never liked when a red shirt would die, it was like it was no big deal, it was like they broke a phaser. Jadzia, Data, Major Hayes, Lt Yar, ect. it was sad moments when they all died. I'd hope people were just as sad when other died.
That's an aspect about DS9 I liked, they did play a lot of sad emphisis on Death, from Veddick Berrial, to the Starfleet officers who died when Nog lost his leg.

Oh aye, Data is badly missed here, he was a fine fine character. That said however, his 'death' and the response to it is entirely absurd, here's a small equation for you to consider:
(Geordi LaForge)+(Backup data stored in B4)+(Box of spare parts formerly known as 'Lore')=(Do I really need to draw you a picture here? :P)

Point well taken! But the emotion chip was one of a kind and gone forever.

Where is Lore? The last time I remember seeing him was when he was trying to start a Borg Army of his own, and Hugh was living undergrond with the other Borg rebels.
And when they found B4 on that primitive planet in Nemisis, why didn't they suspect he was Lore at first?

Data neutralized Lore permanently and disasembled the body, last I heard of it it was stored either in Data's quarters or somewhere else on the Enterprise. It could arguably have been destroyed in Generations, but the damage to the saucer section wasn't serious enough to damage stored equipment significantly, so that gives the parts a 60%+ chance of still being in Data's possesion at the time of his 'death'.

Makes perfect sense, thanks for clearing that up.

Data will be missed. But, don't forget, everyones favorite meddler, Q, is still out there. Who knows we may one day see Admiral Data. And with Q inthe equation, we could get another actor who looks like Brent Spiner, but not quite the same playing Data.
And, yes in his sacrifice Data Truly achieved hummanity.

Hi Beaveringsfan, welcome to TR!
You're right! Q is the wild card of this continuum. It would definitely require a new actor though. Spiner is just not up to playing an ageless android at this point.
Note to the next series producers: DON'T introduce a non-aging character into the franchise!

Data is an android a machine annd can be mass produced. He simulates what humans do and can have memories placed in his 'brain' Every Star Fleet ship should have one. No I do not miss DATA.
