In the movie Daniel Jackson stayed back on the newly discovered world. In the TV series he is a part of Sg-1's team. In the movie Jack Oniell is was very suspicious about what he would find on the other side a took a nuclear bomb along with him and nuked the alien's ship, he is under orders from some branch of the unnamed branch of the military. Kurt Russell 's character was cynical and traumatised because of his son's suicide, a very hard person to please. In Sg-1 Jack Oniell who loves going on off world missions and has no interest in technical info.

What's the point of you post, syborg? Is it about continuity differences between the movie and the show? If so, what's wrong with this? In the movie Daniel Jackson stayed back on the newly discovered world. In the TV series he is a part of Sg-1's team.. Both points are correct, and they don't contradict each other.

Actually in both the series and the movie, Jackson stayed behind. In the pilot, Jackson returns to earth two years later and joins the SGC in order to try and rescue his wife from Apophis after she is abducted and carried off to Chulach, where she became a Goa'uld host, and Apophis' mate. Goa'uld host was Skaara's fate, too.

I loved the movie. I saw it first. I finally bought it a few months ago. I had been searching for it for years. I had to order it from HMV. No one had it in stock. lol
The thing I like about the series is it expands on the idea. In the movie they only travel to one planet and battle one Goa'ould. In the series Jackson makes an incredible discovery: a list of different stargate addresses. Suddenly the SGC is traveling all over the universe and fighting many Goa'oulds.
I like both. I think I might like the series more, though, but only because we get more than one mission.
Oh, and syborg, the SGC falls under the U.S. Air Force.

The original Stargate film sucks unless it is the Expanded version with the deleted scenes placed back in.
It explains most of the characters better with those few scenes added back in.
In all I would give the original Theatrical Version a C+, while giving the Directors Cut version a B+

I have never seen the tv series but loved the film and am pretty sure I do not have the extended edition on dvd.
There's just something about the way that the 'egyptian gods' speak that gives me butterflies............

I think I probably mentioned this before...one thing I really liked in the movie that was not really carried over into the series was the impression that all the people/goa'uld? in Ra's household down to the young children were connected in some way...shared some level of consciousness. Maybe it wasn't intentional on the writers' and directors' parts but there was a sense of unheard communication going on.
And the movie has one of my all time favorite lines of dialog...for this alone if nothing else the movie will be remembered fondly in my household!
"I'm on Planet X and I'm looking for a dweeb."

Personally, I loved the movie. Without having seen it, I probably wouldn't have paid much attention to the show. One thing to remember about O'Neil is that, in the movie, very little time had passed since his son's death and he was in mourning and had suicidal thoughts - which made him a perfect choice for his role in the mission. I think Michael Shanks does a good enough James Spader impersonation, (kind of like Christian Slater/James Dean), that he's a perfectly acceptable Daniel Jackson. As far as the jackal heads, (not horse) - that was Ra's symbol. Snakes were Apophis'. Each "God" has his own. Love the show and love to see there's an entire forum devoted to it.

Given the fact that the story in the movie was relayed by ancient Egyptians it is easy to see why they would think the alien that possessed the boy was just as he appeared, and would not understand the concept of a goa’uld. It is easy to imagine the little green alien as a host that was dying.
