I watched it and i thought it was allright. The jaffa wore horse heads not snake heads. But as we have seen they do wear horse heads. The guold god was called Ra the sun god. Correct me if im wrong. He has coe with his guold ship and attacking that villiage where they first go to. O'neil, jack and and marines. ( no sam yet) They have some fights this and that. Jaffas go ion their death gliders and kill a few people. Evetually after some marines are dead they kill rore and go home. One problem is that there is no mention on guold. It just said rore cam form a dying planet and possesed tht human body. Before he "possesed the body he was a green alien. A must see for all Star Gate fans. What do you think?

I haven't seen the movie in years, and actually remember very little of it, but I do remember liking it. I think looking back on it, it is cool for any SG-1 fan to watch, because it shows us the beginning of Stargate, and how it all happened.

I haven´t seen the movie for ages - but have the video - but do remember everything.
And yes, Tobbles, they did change things a little when they made the series - as it often done. (A good example is "The Highlander", where the Highlander was first a Scotsman who happened to be immortal and then, in the next film, he suddenly came from another planet, for Pete´s sake). LOL
So, I wouldn´t compare the original movie with the series.
I must say that I liked Ra from the original movie - I much liked the helmet he wore and was fascinated with how it always collapsed and the showed Ra´s face.

To tell you the truth, I could think up of a million therios as to why there were changes made in the movie and the series, but I do believe that the first episode of Stargate Sg-1 exploits how Jack doesn't tell the whole story...

I didn't rent the movie until after I had already been watching SG1. I enjoyed it, even though I probably spent too much time comparing the movie to the series.
I don't think Kurt Russell's O'Neill was nearly as likeable a person. But one thing he said during the movie cracked me up. It's one of those random lines I'm likely to spout at odd moments.
"I'm on Planet X and I'm looking for a Dweeb". When your house is infested with teen males, that line seems to fit occasionally.
Absolutely nothing against teen males. Love mine. And I love watching when all the teen males for miles around arrive at your door (you can hear the skateboard wheels long before they're in sight), clear out your pantry and fridge, play some video games, fiddle on a few guitars and the drums synthesizer, and then disappear in a roar of skateboard wheels on asphalt, to descend on another house like a plague of locusts.
They're great kids growing up to be great adults. And they're apparently always starving.

I saw the movie first and didn´t compare the series with the movie - it´s best not to. At the time, Kurt Russell was perfect as Colonel Jack O´Neil, being ordered to destroy the planet. And it was really nice seeing him change while he was on the planet and got to know the inhabitants, especially Skaara. I also very much liked James Spader as Daniel Jackson - in fact, I preferred him to the other butt-wipe who kept coming and going in the series... Here is a nice link to the original movie: www.gateworld.net/movies/01.shtml

I personally loved the movie. I thought it was different and interesting. I didn't like Kurt Russell as Jack O'Neill, but at the very end of the movie, he did show another side. A side almost like the way Jack is in the series. James Spader was good as Daniel. In fact, when the series started..Michael Shanks looked so much like him, I thought it was James. But all and all, I'll still have to go with Daniel from the series.
I don't get all nick picky when it comes to differences from the movies to the series. I notice them, but I just enjoy the movie when I watch it. You know...come to think about it, I have been meaning to watch it again. Maybe I'll do that tonight.
Anyways...I thought the movie was good. If you like this sort of thing.

It was a good starting point. Overall all it was a good movie, but if people just saw it and went no further then that, they missed out on quite a bit.
