For those of you who are not very familiar with what Area 51 is, a little basic background information: "The Groom Lake Base is this top-secret military base located 90 miles north of Las Vegas, Nevada. It is in grid number 51 of the Nevada Test Site, so it is called Area 51. The United States Air Force Flight Test Center controls the base. It's best known for testing exotic aircraft and weapons. The base was created in 1954 as a place to test the secret U-2 spyplane that was used to fly missions over the Soviet Union. Then it started to house the SR-71, A-12 and D-21 drone. The F-117A was tested there, also. In the 1980's the base increased in size, along with the runway (which increased to the present 6 miles). Then, mysterious lights began to appear, and armed guards known as the cammo dudes started patrolling the border. The government closed many viewpoints from which the Area 51 base could be seen. In 1989, a "physicist" named Bob Lazar claimed that he worked at a base south of Area 51 and also claimed that Area 51 was testing extremely advanced aircraft and UFO's they got by trading with the aliens. Since then, Area 51 has been thought to be the test center of captured UFOs because of the lights in the night sky." Well... there is no getting away from it... what did happen in Roswell, New Mexico in July 1947? Did a flying saucer (UFO) crash near Roswell and did the US government recovered the bodies of aliens? And if so, what on Jupiter is in Hangar 18? If none of this was true, then why were not only witnesses who had seen the craft coming down and also been at the crash site, but also government employees who were working on this project, threatened not to tell what they saw and/or discredited if they did talk or told to change their story after they did tell the truth. And while we are at it: What about the "Majestic-12". Well, anyone interested in the subject, lets talk about it!! ;D And if you would like to get some more info, here are a couple of links: www.unexplained-mysteries.com/articleroswell.shtmlwww.nmsr.org/roswell.htmwww.af.mil/lib/roswell.htmlwww.stanleysound.com/hangar18.html

Interesting you bring up Roswell, New Mexico. I lived in Roswell from Oct. 2000 till July 2001. It's a very cool place with lots of alien novelty shops, and the Alien Museum. As it's early, and I'm not awake yet, I'll post a few things, but will be back later with alot on Roswell, and my thoughts on Area 51. If I can find my Roswell, New Mexico State PictureI.D. I had made out there as a suvaneur (sp) I'll scan it and post it, as you don't run into too many people who has claimed to live there, and actually be telling the truth. ~Myke

LOL In a way, it´s a shame that so much hocus pokus is going on there what with all those souvenir shops and all because it does somehow make the whole thing laughable and discredit the honest people and true believers. But I can´t wait to hear from the horse´s mouth how many UFOs have been sighted when you lived there. ;D

Believe it or not, the majority of the residents there dosent even give UFO's or aliens a second thought. In fact, some of them are unaware that thier little town is so famous. When I was traveling the US, Roswell was one place I just 'HAD' to visit. I pretty much knew I'd stick around for a while, but didnt know I'd live there so long. There were some residents, who would try to sell peices of their backyard to tourists, claiming it came from the desert field where the UFO's crashed. My friend and I knew better, as avid fans of sci fi and the unkown, we already knew where the crash happened, and that the owner sold tickets to tour his property, that he would not be on the street selling dirt. Most of my experiences in Roswell, ended up being normal, well as normal as could be, as opposed to the alien nature. A few things that were cool, once when I was in the musuem, there was an artifact on the wall, claiming to be part of the crash. I stared at it in awe, wondering if I really was looking at alien technology, then ala the caption underneath said it was a mere relplica of a peice that had been calimed to have been seen. It was a cool feeling while it lasted, a feeling most people will never know, to look at something they believed to be alien technology. My friend and I would also like to take drives out into the desert. When we had the week ends off from work, we;d take mini road trips. Once while on a paved road in the desert, we came across a path, or a dirt/sand road. No signs, no nothing, just a road, so we took it and drove for about 10 minutes untill we came across a small building, with no windows or doors. The road continued, and there was also a sign posted by the U.S. Military that said 'No Tresspassing by order of The United States Government, Violators Will Be Prosocuted To The fullest Extent of the LAW' It reminded me of the Area 51 signs, exept it didnt say we'd be shot. Nevertheless, at the time, that was a trip best left untook, although I regret my decision now, if I had it to do over again, I'd definatly have continued further down the road. As for seeing aliens, to be truthful, the only aliens I saw were illeagle ones ~Myke

And I would have definately gone further - sign or no sign, even if it meant, leaving the car and continuing on foot towards the unknown. I have always been intrigued by the unknown and if a sign told me to stop, I would definately do the opposite. LOL I mean, how else can you learn new things. But I am surprised that there are actually people living in Roswell who have no idea what has happened there...

Like I said, if I had it to do over again, I would have went all the way, well at least untill a military jeep or whatever stopped and arrested me I'm not sure why we didnt, I know we had planned on returning and going forward as we knew we'd be arrested, I think we were putting it off, but sadley we never returend. How cool it would have been, that's the things Mulder & Scully adventures are made from I miss traveling so much, I've been back in my hometown going on 3 years now, and miss the open road so much ~Myke

Yeah... I know what you mean. Especially when the skies are blue and the sun is out more often, I feel like packing a suitcase, throwing it into the car and just get driving. And America being as large and beautiful as it is, I can´t think of a better place to be when that feeling gets a hold of me.

I had a friend in the Marines who was stationed at the Nellis Air Force Range in Nevada, from what he told me. This is the honest to God truth as far as I know, so I'm just telling you what I heard. He said he and a few fellow officers were on leave so they took some highway between Vegas and some other city in Nevada. Forgive me, it's been 4 years since he told me this. All he said was that their car came to a halt halfway between Vegas and the base, and that when they got out to look at the engine, they noticed a whole lot of triangular light patterns moving in the sky. He said the car had stopped for no reason at all. It was a brand new Pontiac Grand Prix on rental. They walked out into the desert to gain higher ground in order to better see the lights and stumbled upon some razorwire and barbed wire with signs saying : United States Government: Tresspassers will be shot on sight. And then it listed a bunch of ordinances and numbers that my Jarhead friend could not remember. But he said he saw some crazy stuff in the night sky between Vegas and the Nellis Base. I personally believe him, being that we've known each other for around 15 years, but who knows. Perhaps the government tells their people to make up stories for their friends who are skeptical about alien life? Or perhaps Matt was telling the truth? I don't know for certain. I just know the story freaked me out when I first heard it 4 years ago.

I just know the story freaked me out when I first heard it 4 years ago. Hmmm... why would the government want people to be less skeptical about aliens? Usually, they would try everything in the book to make believers out to be liers. And I am sure that people working for the government get trained in how to deal with questions from friends and family members and what to tell them. Anyway, why would your friend tell you such a story if it wasn´t true? I mean, I don´t just turn around and tell my friend a ficticious story about having seen aliens or something if it wasn´t true... so I definately believe your friend. And Myke, thanks for the invite. I have been to the US several times and even travelled on the Greyhound, no less, from NY to San Diego with many stops to look around on the way. Yes, the US has many wonderful places to visit. I could just drive into one of those great forests and never be seen again...

Then my friend, you have seen true, absolute beauty. Montana was and is my favorite place to be. Probably one of the happiest times, and most free times of my life was spent in Montana. Everything from exploring old ghost towns, prospecting for gold, to hiking exploring ect.
We stayed along the Kootnie River for a while, next to Kootnie Falls, I think, and that was the same location they filmed the movie 'River Wild' LOL I hope I'm getting my names right, I'm so very very tired.
In fact, I'd be up there living today, but the economy is too bad. I had plans to become a forest ranger, and work up there, but I havent realized those dreams yet.

When I visited Montana, I so much wanted to stay and apply for a position as a forest ranger. ;D I could have happily stayed in Yellowstone Park (minus the tourists... LOL) and be happy for the rest of my life. It is a beautiful country and so wide and open-spaced. Just thinking about it makes me want to put on my hiking boots and jump back onto the next Greyhound that leaves for Bozeman. ;D

Scroll up and look at my previous post about the Nellis Air Force Range. I've done a bit of digging via Yahoo and Google searches and it turns out that Matt, my Marine buddy, was apparantly stationed at Area 51 itself! It seems that a couple of years ago, a Russian spy satellite took some photos of the Nellis Base and the goverment had to release a bunch of info saying that it was not Area 51, and Area 51 doesn't exist, and even though it was minutes away from Groom Lake, that there was no validity to any Area 51 stories. They just said that they test experimental aircraft there and that's it.
Yeah right!! Unfortunately Matt is in Iraq right now and I can't ask him to verify anything or give me any more info......I hope he makes it back alright.
