I found this interesting bit of info and thought I'd share it with you. There have been made suggestions for a 28-hour day, which would give us a six-day week. It seems there are advantages to a longer day. Check this out: www.dbeat.com/28/

I dunno.....somehow I don't like the thought of 28 hour days...it would mean longer work days in order to make up the lost time..and i think of potential problems with just simple things..like your birthday....the day of your birthday would change for instance....since each day would now be longer....there would be less days in a month..which would also change the date of your birth....just seems like it would be too much of an issue overall for such a change to happen on a global scale.

Well, I guess that people who are already alive, would keep their birth dates, and get a new date added. LOL
And as for having a longer day, that doesn't necessarily mean you work longer hours but you may have more free time AND more time to sleep. It could also mean that you only work 4 days and then have 2 days off for the weekend. Of course, the bible would need to be rewritten what with the belief that God created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th. LOL
It is rather interesting that it suggests that the sleeping pattern would change and that it would benefit us. Mind you, if and when this happens, I don't think you and I have to worry about - it won't happen for a long long time.
But I am always open to new ideas and suggestions. Why not? Who says we have to have 7 days in a week anyway ? Many of these old inventions could do with an overhaul. ;D
Additional: I made a little list of what the days would look like. Instead of having a Monday to Sunday 00.00 hrs to 00.00 hrs week, we would have:
Monday 00.00 midnight to Tuesday 4 AM
Tuesday 4 AM to Wednesday 8 AM
Wednesday 4 AM to Thursday 12.00 noon
Thursday 12.00 noon to Friday 4 PM
Friday 4 PM to Saturday 8 PM
Saturday 8 PM to Sunday 00.00 midnight
So... these new days mean that we would be spending some of our sleeping time in daylight and some of our waking time at night. Right now, this might sound really strange but only because we are used to the day/night cycle. Think of those people who live up in the northern part of the world, where it doesn't get dark for several months in the summer and it doesn't get light for several months in the winter. They have to cope with much worse. LOL

except for a standard 40 hour work week....where someone works 5 days a week for 8 hours a day....if you went down to only working 4 days so u still get 2 days off you would have to switch to working 10 hour days.....

So? That would still give you 18 hours of free time: 8 hours for sleep (or more if you want) and 10 hours of free time. Now, you can't tell me that at the moment, working all day, you would get 10 hours to yourself plus 8 hours sleep. Don't be so stuffy, Wolf. You sound like an old fart with your set ways.

It will not help with the sleep cycles, either. Humans are supposed to sleep at night. It would be pointless to try and change that. And with a longer day, and only six days in a week, you would lose twenty hours on the weekends.

And with a longer day, and only six days in a week, you would lose twenty hours on the weekends. How do you come to that conclusion? 6 days with each 28 hours is the same as 7 days with 24 hours. And if you work only 4 days - since you are working longer per day, you don't work the 5-day week - you get in fact a longer weekend since those 2 off days each have 28 hours instead of 24.

No, the hours would be the same, but buisnesses will still have a five day work week. You would lose either Saturday, or Sunday. To have only a four day week would require ten hour work days, instead of eight. I have yet to see any benefit from this plan.

If you read what they say in the link provided, you will find that they mention that you can achieve and produce more in one day and have less days to travel to work - hence, you have a 4-day working week.

But people become tired. No one will choose a ten hour work day over an eight hour one.

Well, not that long ago, people were used to a 10-hour working day, and more. In my opinion it's just a matter of what you are used to and how well you can adapt. But everyone to his (or her) own.

The way I'm figuring it, working 10 hour work days, 4 days a week in a 6 day week, would give us the same amount of free time as it does now. We wouldn't have an extra minute of fre time, we'd have the same amount of time as we do now it would just be grouped together differently. It would be stange for it to be dark at 4AM on Monday, then se the sun straight up at 4AM Thuesday. I guess you could always add extra hours to the clock. That would be very strange.

My employees work 10 hour shifts and get 3 days off every week.
They love it, in fact not any time have they asked to goto the standard 8 5 hour day at all. If they did, its up to them, but so far every one of the 45 employees love having 3 straight days off and still bring home the 40 hour paycheck. In fact several of the employees would like to try out a 14,14,12 schedule so they only have to work 3 days and get four days off and still have a 40 hour workweek.
To me I prefer to work longer hours and have more off time myself.
