I guess the Sci-fi channel is going to premier it's new mini series Battlestar Gallictica on Monday December 8th, 2003.
I have never seen but a few episodes of the original, and don't really know anything about the series. I will, however, be watching the new series when it debuts. Is there anything I should know before going into this series?

That this remake completely goes against the original series Seriously Myke, if you get the BattleStar Galactica box set and watch it all, you would not care to see this Sci-Fi remake. Normally I have no problems with redoing classic sci-fi shows, but atleast they should stay in line with what was done originally. The Cylons on the TV show were robots that were created by a race called the cylons eons ago, I saw that the cylons in this series are human. Thats a big no no to me. I actually looked forward to it when I saw the first commercials(before the box set), but on the box set they have what Sci-Fi has been showing as commercials and I lost all interest.

From what I gather from the preview on Sci Fi, the Cylons are clones or something. I won't have the sour taste for the series that you have, as I've never seen the original, so I have nothing to compare it too.
I may get the old series on day, as long as they are not 100 dollars a season like Star Trek (which is exactly why the only Star Trek DVDs I have are the movies)

I paid $35 for the box set. It only has 16 episodes(counting 2 parters as 1 episode).
The series on Sci-Fi will probably lead to a new series on the network as well, but like i said earlier, I have no interest.

I watched Battlestar Galactica this week and it was extremely disappointing. Obviously, remakes are never as good as the original. Also, the SciFi channel hyped this miniseries for almost a year. You expected a miniseries along the lines of Taken, but what you ended up with was a TWO part miniseries with an ending that left you hanging.

I watched the last 10 minutes of part 2 and yes they did leave you hanging.
But like I stated earlier, its because they probably planned on it becoming a series as well and have the opening ready to go.
They did the same thing with V: The Final Battle as well. Remember they panned away to show the other side of the moon where all the motherships went before going back to the lead mothership and showing the ending, thus leaving it open for the tv show that followed.

I watched it as well. I saw the first two shows, the end of the second the ywere heading to a 'fictional' place called EArth, and one of the female pilots was a Cylon, but Sci Fi being who they are, never showed a part 3. Was the a third 2 hour installment? I don;t know about other places, but the Sci-Fi channel is really messed up in my area, always changing thier schedule and running the same marathons over and over again.

Yesterday, the first 2-hour part of the 4-hour mini series of the new Battlestar Galactica was shown here. After 45 minutes, I switched it over to another channel where I watched a comic programme, which entertained me more than this programme did and only went back to BG when the ads were on. What a yawn... Part two is on tonight. I am soooo looking forward to it. LOL

LOL You're just not having any luck with new sci fi shows are you?
I enjoyed the mini series, and am looking forward to the new BSG series that is going to air here at the start of 2005. Of course I don't really care much for the original series at all, and do not compare the new mini series (and regular series) to it at all.

Oh... I didn´t compare the new series with the old one. The old one was a yawn as well. LOL It´s just that this programme is so similar to many other sci-fi programmes you see these days on TV - there is nothing special to it that keeps you glued to the set - if you know what I mean. There was nothing in this programme I haven´t seen in another programme already, that´s what bores me to death. ;D

I still have old videos of the original. The girls were hot and the pilots cool. I'm yet to see anything down under of a remake, but as usual it will come here in two years and be chopped to the schizenhousezn. Gawd, I can't believe they have changed the cylons like that ... even the old boxy ones looked good for their day.

LOL I need something more than that to keep me watching. And Wolf... LOL ;D Well, I rather enjoyed most of the trip to Earth but once they reached Earth, it was just another "lets help some humans while we are still trying to settle down on this planet" programme. Huge yawn here...

And it takes more then pretty women to get me interested in a show. But while the new mini series didnt put me on the edge of my seat, I still enjoyed it. I liked the storyline, the effects, ect. Not all Trek shows put me on the edge of my seat, some of them we a little slow progressing, but they told a good stroy nevertheless. But I guess we all kike different things for different reasons.

Huge yawn here... No one counts that damn Battlestar 1989 or whatever the hell it was as part of the official series. People had a major wrtiing in campaign after they cancelled the original series....so the network brought the show back....but with a cheaper budget and new storyline figuring if everything took place on earth they wouldnt have to waste money on special effects. I only count the true original series. Now I have to plot on how to kill Myke for not liking the original....*Plots deviously*
