Just saw it last night at 12am. Loved the first 20 minutes ;D Over all its better them than the other two, but there are still some things that just made people laugh. The emperor for one and Darth Vader at the end. He should not yell out "Nooooooo", its just not Darth Vader. R2D2, has some great senses . Padmie, was not looking her best I thought either. But I’ll still see it again.

I was actually wondering if this movie would be any good. I lost faith in George Lucas after the first two. lol Everyone says this one is supposed to be so much better, but I don't know. I still haven't decided whether or not I want to see it. There are too many other good movies that I want to see first, like Crash. This one may have to wait until video... unless some people here give it really good reviews...

As far as the reviews go, many of the die-hard SW fans (like theforce.net for example) are saying it's the best since Empire Strikes Back, which is regarded as the best SW film of them all.

The movie is excellent. I went into it rather skeptical, both because of the last two, but also because of the sheer amount of information they were going to have to cover to bridge the gap between II and IV. They did a pretty good job with setting up everything for the original trilogy, I think, though there were clearly some things thrown into place right at the end, and I think the movie could have benefitted from another twenty minutes of resolving plot lines rather than the five they gave for it.
It's interesting the connections that are made, for sure. There are some questions raised--for example, anyone without a rudimentary knowledge of the story that takes place outside the films and watches all six are going to have a lot of questions, like where does Mon Mothma fit in (I was expecting to see a least some minor shot of her showing leadership as a setup for ROTJ) and a couple other things.
I was particularly surprised by a particular scene right at the end, I won't give it away, but I didn't see the point in it.

I saw it at home and although it was 100% better than I and II, you could tell where Spielberg directed scenes and where Lucas directed scenes.
The part with Vader screaming was a mood killer for me as I grew up with this menancing tyrant, and yet right after he is "born" he acts like a whiny baby? Come on.
And I do hope that Lucas puts the other 20 minutes back into the Obi-Won/Grievace battle though.
And why the hell did they call the kids younglings? That l;ine made me laugh so hard. You could tell that several of the actors hated saying that word for the kids lol

I was there opening night, waited for 4 hrs, met some Incredibly awesome people, not that thats important My point is, that everyone there was there to see it, just because it was the last Star Wars...All of us hardcore fans, ignored the critics, went in with an open mind, hoping that Lucas would display another masterpiece...It was excellent, yes, the dilact was horrible in some points, and R2-D2 was extremley whiney, I agree that it was the best since Empire and everyone I talked to, except one person, has agreed with me!!!! Totally worth the money, the opening scene is magnificent...best effects yet...and only one showing of Mr. Binks!!! thank.......god

If only Natalie Portman was cast as a different role in this movie...she would do better...but at the end, Lucas puts the movies together perfectly and you will see that IV picks up LITERALLY right where III left off...

I don't think Darth Vader yelling was a bad thing. If you noticed, they focused the camera on Emperor Palpatine as this was going on, to see the smile on his face. He told Vader he had killed Padme. I believe this was to further show the anger, and pain in Vader. Afterall, it was that that lead him to the Dark Side of the Force. His anger destroyed the droids and machinary around him. That is/was Vader's power, his anger.
All in all I enjoyed Episode III. I thought they did a great job in tieing in the first trilogy to the second trilogy well. It now seems like one long movie, as opposed to series made generations apart.
I noticed Jar Jar didn't have one single line in this movie. ;D
C-3PO and R2-D2 has very small roles as well, but I'm not complaining. This movie was supposed to be, and was about Anakin's formation into Darth Vader and Palpatine's formation of the Galactic Empire.

I agree that the whole Darth Vader yelling thing wasn't quite the way to go...I mean, were they really expecting us to take that seriously? Well, besides that, I think the third movie was excellent. Of course, this is coming from a Star Wars fan, not a fanatic. So I'm comparing this movie to episodes 1 and 2, not the older ones (I haven't even seen them. Sad, I know...). I'm planning on seeing it again, and I recommend it to anyone who overall enjoys both the old and new Star Wars movies. Die-hard fans will have to decide for themselves.

Also they didnt talk about the death star at all in theis movie, which I would have thought they would do after Ep II, considering that they talked about it at the end of II. Again no big deal though.
This movie made me want to watch the originals again though, and thats what Lucas wanted people to do.

I've always particularly wondered about the whole Death Star, thing. Thank you, Voyager, for reminding me the plans were at the end of II, I'd forgotten.
Is it reasonable to expect that the Death Star took 18 years to build? (which we can assume is the length of time between III and IV because of the age of Luke and Leia) I mean, for it to be kept a secret for so long seems rather difficult, given the existence of the Senate, and the massive amount of funding that would have been required to disappear for that long.

I was wondering the same thing myself. It wasn't revealed to them for 18 years, but did it take that long to build? The 2nd Death Star was built in a matter of years (how ever many was between Episodes 5 and 6).
What were they doing with the original Death Star for all of those years? Perhaps they decided not to use it until Palpatine dissoved the Imperial Senate?

Consider this. The second Death Star had the same flawed design, so is it wrong to think they might have been building this one while they were building the first one? A whole army of Death Stars afterall would be pretty unstoppable.

That's a real good theory FantasyLover. I had not thought of that, building a fleet of Death Stars.
I'd like to find out just how long it does take to build a Death Star. And if they were not building a fleet, why build the 2nd one with the same flaw as the first?
Unless of course The Emperor did it on purpose to draw the Rebellion there, thus ultimately drawing Luke Skywalker there to convert him to the Dark Side of the Force. Remember all of the events in Jedi up until Luke and the Rebellion's victory had been for-seen by Emperor Palpatine.

I was just watching Star Wars again, and I thought about the Death Star. It may not have taken the 18 years to build, it may have had construction delays, because of the massive size of it, and building it in secret(so they thought), they would have had to sneak the stuff to build it. So its not that it would have taken so long, just that they had to sneak around for the first one to keep it a secret, which explains why in Jedi, the second one is fully functional only half way completed, it didnt have to be hidden, the rebels already knew about the death star, so the Empire probably made modifications to prevent it from being destroyed.
Remember the first death star was destroyed by firing blasts down an air vent, the second one required them to physically fly into the death star to destroy it.
