Thank you, I didn't know about that one, interesting although I question the inclusion of McGann as a true incarnation of the Dr.

I know but he only did the Millenium Special didn't he? Of course knowing me I could have missed a whole series with him as the Dr. That makes it worse, we've got less regenerations than I thought we had. I didn't see any mention of Peter Cushing playing the Dr. in the second Dalek film, did I blink when I shouldn't have?

Well that doesn't surprise me at all, he was pathetic as the Dr. and I ddin't like him in that film one little bit. He should have stayed in Hammer Horror or playing Van Helsing to Christopher Lee's Dracula.

I think the reason why Cushing took the role was to break away from his Hammer Horror actor sterotype, if you see what I mean. And any, I think those films and his Doctor are rather enjoyable.

Oh I like Hammer films myself and the old Dr. Who films, even Peter Cushing playing Dr. Who was acceptable when I was a much younger dragonrider with baby dragons.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but I'm gaining a distinct impression that you're a Dr. Who Fan.

What's your opinion of the latest actor playing Dr. Who? No sarcasm, honest. And as for David Tennant as the Doctor? I think he's doing quite a good job actually.

Yay, a Doctor Who thread!
I remember watching the old Tom Baker episodes when I was a kid. I watched them on the local PBS station. I loved the show, but soon after, the PBS station stopped airing them. Then, just about a decade later, came the Doctor Who TV movie, with Paul McGann. I remember not liking that all that much, compared with the original series. But then, nothing more came of Doctor Who. And then came last year, when the Christopher Eccleston season aired on Sci Fi. I absolutely love his interpretation of the Doctor. Definitely among my favorites, right up there with Baker. That first season was absolutely great. The episode Dalek is perhaps my favoriite, and the season finale, Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways was fantastic. I loved that, at the beginning of the first part, with the Doctor in the futuristic version of Big Brother. That was hilarious.
I was able to watch the entire second season of Doctor Who well before it started in late September on Sci Fi. So I've long-since seen this finale, Army of Ghosts/Doomsday. That is my favorite story arc this season, though the Cyberman story arc earlier on was fantastic. The Army of Ghosts episode ends with one of the best cliffhanger endings EVER. For those who've yet to see it, I'm not spoiling anything.
But, yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing the third season. Although, it'll be interesting, since both Eccleston and Piper, who were the stars at the outset of this new series, are both gone by this third season. But then, that's the tradition of Doctor Who, isn't it? That the Doctor always ends up regenerating at some point, and you know you shouldn't get too attached to the Companion(s), because they'll be out of the picture eventually.
It'll also be interesting to watch The Runaway Bride, as it'll be the first Doctor Who story since the Tom Baker story arc The Deadly Assassin to feature the Doctor without a companion.

Ah, another one! ;D Actually, I'll let you into something, in Doctor Who speak used amongst fans, a story arc is actually several stories, whilst "The Deadly Assassin" as you just mentioned, was just one story. It's how the BBC made them in the past; all multi parters.

It's how the BBC made them in the past; all multi parters. Ah, thanks for that. Would the term "serial" be used instead? Oh, I've found a couple of really interesting books that discuss Doctor Who here at my University's library. Both were published recently. The first one is by Andrew Cartmel, and is called Through Time: The Unauthorized and Unofficial History of Doctor Who. That book discusses the 29 year run of Doctor Who and discusses a lot of the more popular serials, and nitpicks the episodes. It is a fun read. For more of a "behind-the-scenes" look at the original series, there is Inside the TARDIS: The Worlds of Doctor Who, by James Chapman. This discusses the politics and strategies that went on with the production crew with the series, and the fan reactions. That book relies on the BBC Written Archives for most of its material. Both books include some commentary on the '96 movie and the Eccleston season of the new series. Great reads, I recommend them.
