Would you like to see Starfleet become a reality? Well this is what i prepose: Starfleet would be used to join all the space fairing countries together, with the simple aim to help our space exploration program develop faster. A leader of each Space "company", NASA, ESA etc. would be given a place on Starfleet Command. Money from each country's space program is all consolodated in to one "bank account" so to speak, Thus Giving Starfleet Command better flexibility (and a bigger budget!) on what they would like to develop/invest in
Starfleet would also be made up of loads of other sections (just like in ST). All the Astrophysyst's(Sp?) and other scientist's from all the other countries would be re-located to one central research facility (Starfleet Research Facility), These scientists would also serve as scientific advisors to Starfleet Command. Other sections of Starfleet would also have adviseors to Starfleet Command.
All spacecraft would have there country's symbold removed and replaced with the Starfleet logo. By consolodating all reasearch, money, scientist etc. we can help our space program develop a lot quicker. Instead of countries entering spaces "races" with each other, wouldn't it benefit EVERYONe if we all worked to gether? I think so.
Let's do it NOW!

would be nice....but I guarantee in the world we livee in now it will never happen. no one trusts anyone else and that would be a major problem waiting to happen. the world would probably accuse us of running it all to take over all the other countries.

Thats a good point But don't you agree that the only way to trust other people is to make sure they trust you? Starfleet could be created, But we'd have to show the world that the sole purpose for Starfleet would be Space Exploration. Starfleet would be free to make it's own decisions, Free from political restraints, as if you remember i said Starfleet Command would not be run by any one country. Starfleet would be completely independant. Apart from the Space program funding from each country. If we wanted to created Starfleet the time to put all our differences behind us is NOW!
We've got to pull together as ONE species, or we'll NEVER get it done.

the only problem is that the US is the country with most of the scientists...technology...and money to make this thing happen...you would never get any other countries outside of maybe england to believe it was a seperate entity and not being used by us to build space weapons or something.

This is why we must put our differences (and doubts) aside. Exploring space will be beneficial to humans! Starfleet would not be controlled by any one country. Therefor every leadeder of a space program that joined Starfleet would be able to know whats going on in Starfleet.

I am all for putting them aside....I am just saying I don;t think we are enlightened anough as a species yet....I guarantee there is still too much hostility and hate out there by these little rogue countries for it to work. countries like north korea would probably nuke starfleet headquarters.

lol, I agree. And terrorism being at an all-time high doesn't help the situation. Oh well, perhaps in a few years Starfleet will be real! *sigh*

would be nice....but I guarantee in the world we livee in now it will never happen. no one trusts anyone else and that would be a major problem waiting to happen. the world would probably accuse us of running it all to take over all the other countries. I agree... Also, as long our world is still divided into countries the way it is now, we will never do anything together. Your proposal is already at a fault where money is concerned. There will be nothing but arguing how much money each country has to contribute and how many people each country is allowed to work at Starfleet. The larger countries will argue that because they are the bigger power, they should have more manpower at Starfleet and smaller and/or poorer countries will be left out because they either can´t afford to pay their way or don´t have the skilled personnel. The perfect example of how divided even a union can be is the European Union. I think it´s wonderful that the EC exists, it makes travelling and living in neighbouring countries so much easier. But there are also so many rifts and petty arguments. And many EU citizens still can´t make up their mind whether or not they want to belong. It will still take many years until the EU may be truly unified - and not only in the name. Anyway.... so if we already have all these disagreements on a small scale, can you imagine what will happen on such a large scale? Our planet has to be unified - one world - literally, before we can even begin to think of building something so huge as a Starfleet. Oh well, that´s me done. LOL

I voted yes. I'd love to see a Starfleet. If it came to be, I'd go back to school, study, send out bribes, lol, do whatever it took to get accecpted, and finally realize my dream of first hand space exploration. However, I'd imagine it would take a one world government, and basically an endless budget for it to come to be. Speaking of one world governments, and a society w/out money, has any of you noticed how alike the United EArth of the UFP is to communism? ~Myke

I voted yes too, obviously. Anyone who's read any of my posts knows I'm a space freak. LOL!
United Earth being kinda like Communism? Hmmmm....provacative subject matter there Myke. I suppose if you were to eliminate the need for money, the race for food and resources, and change people's attitudes about "keeping up with the Jones's", Communism would be easy and probably actually work. But as it stands now, only China seems to have that under control, and it isn't a very stable control from what I understand. I'd love to expand this subject into a full-blown discussion, so I think I'm gonna create a new thread in the general discussion section about terrorism, and politics, and solutions to the problems we face here on Earth in the early 21st Century.
Back to the current thread though, I think it would be a fantastic idea to go ahead and create Starfleet. I don't think the world is ready for it, and I, like many other people, feel that we have too many problems to take care of on Earth right now to go gallavanting around the cosmos and run the risk of running into potentially hostile beings like Klingons or Romulans.
My bottom line is this. Star Fleet is inevitable, much like the conflict between Neo and Smith. (Sorry, I just bought Revolutions and watched it 3 times!!!! LOL!) Time is irrelevant when it comes to this. It WILL HAPPEN at some point in our future. As much as I want to be on that manned mission to Mars or experience the speeds that an ion drive, or (wishful thinking) a warp drive could produce, I don't think that we're ready. By WE I mean the people of Earth as a united entity. There are still so many people across the globe being religeous fanatics, and suicide bombers, and racists, and God knows what else. We are not ready as a species. And truly, I feel we must unite as a species in order to be able to take the next step in exploring the cosmos.
OK...I'm gonna go start those threads in the general discussion area. Talk to you guys later! =)

And since there are only "yes" votes, we all know that that is what we all voted. LOL Anyway, about communism. It is sad that certain countries have given communism a bad name. When you think about it, the reason we have so much envy and greed and violence is because none of us is equal. To me the word communism spells equality, nothing more, nothing less. Unfortunately, it´s the big shots in the communist countries, that gives the word a bad name because they themselves don´t practise communism and live the life of any capitalist, while the average human being in their countries have to suffer. So all the United Federation of the future are doing is making every living soul equal. I don´t see anything wrong with it. Why must I have a 10-bedroom house if there is only my husband and I, while a street further down, kids are starving because their parents don´t earn enough money to buy them propper food. Am I the only one who sees it this way or are there others who share my view? (I really wish, Myke, I could see the yellow smilies again - still don´t know what I am clicking here). LOL

I undersand completly Valderra, perhaps a modified version from what Marx wrote about.
I wouldnt mind it, given I had property rights, and kept my constotutional rights. I wouldnt want it to turn the way of Stalin's Soviet Union, or any era of the Soviet Union for that matter. I'd gladley trade this economy for a Starfleet economy any day of the week. I probably wouldnt have to worry about property rights and such, as the Starfleet government probably wouldnt force me to.

As for the smilies, I'm gonna try to work on the yellow ones, adding jus the right eye piece over them, such as the blue smilie that gets asimilated. That should be alot better.
