Can't say much about Jonas - he came and went again just as I was getting used to him. Damn you, Michael Shanks !! He just can't make up his mind whether to stay or go. One moment he's gone, then he comes back. Never liked him after he came back. Anyway, I rather liked Jonas, after getting used to the fact that they had a new member in the team. He's the kind of person you would want for your best friend. ;D

Every time the SGC had anything to do with his homeworld, I found myself wondering "how did such a psychotic planet hatch such a nice, clean-cut, unassuming, SANE person?" I missed Daniel during that year (even though he did a few guest-ghost appearances). But it would have been nice to see more of Jonas than a year and a couple of guest appearances. The writers did a good job of not going overboard on the "more evolved human being" concept.
I really like the "H.G. Wells meets the 21st Century" look and feel of the technology on Jonas' homeworld.
All in all, a good addition to SG1, to the cast, and to the story line of the series. It would be cool to have him back more often!

I missed Daniel during that year (even though he did a few guest-ghost appearances). I didn't miss him at all and got really annoyed each time he did appear in a guest role. As I said, he obviously thought he was big enough to move on to bigger and better parts and when that didn't work out, he came crawing back. Have lost respect for that guy completely. He reminds me of people like whatshisname who played Moulder in the X-Files. He too thought he was bigger and better than anyone else on the show and could move on to become a mega "film" star. Well, he did a few crappy movies and then came back in guest appearances and came back altogether at the end. Pathetic...

It's like any career, you want to show your stuff and move on up. It's clear the SG1 producers and directors were willing to help him try and expand his horizons without slamming the door on his heiny as he left. Some shows kill off the character for good when the actor decides to spread his wings. Remember what happened to the first Colonel on MASH? (ohhh...referencing MASH...maybe I should add that to the You Know You're Old When thread...). I liked the Daniel character better in the early seasons, but I still think the character and actor add appeal to the series.

Same here, I did like Daniel in the beginning. And regarding wanting to spread their wings... That's all very well, but since they are in a TV programme, that relies - to some exptent - on the characters being around, they should at least have the decency to stay until the programme is finished.
Some of these actors know that they are "indispensible" and often ask for the moon after a few seasons and when they don't get it, they decide to walk (we really don't know why Shanks walked, God alone knows what went on behind the scenes) and then they think that the producers will beg them to come back AND raise their salary. Well, stuff it. I'll bet Michael Keaton thought he was the one and only Batman and that no one could replace him and asked for so much more money that they just got someone else to play Batman. And once again, it shows that NO ONE is indispensible. So anyway, I think the decent thing would have been to stick with the programme OR if he wanted to leave, DON'T COME BACK, especially if it means that others don't get the chance to stay till the end and get their break, like this guy who played Jonas.
And talking of Mash and "Old is when"... LOL I like the programme and the movie. ;D

I like Daniel's sense of humor too. It's a little overdone in the later seasons, though.
LOL! I had a feeling that a Jonas character discussion would turn out to be mostly about Daniel.

I think the young Hammond is pretty cool. He responds to things he is unsure about. And the Gen. Hammond is still cool, but he always seems to be "out of the loop"...
