The Star Trek franchise caught hold of the wormhole concept late in DS9 - in Stargate it is an integral plart of the show. Reaching other planets without a space ship. The silly thing about Stargate SG-1 is that a sophisticated computer is need to dialup to other planets, but retrurning is easy - each gate has its dialer. Another silly thing about Stargate is that all the 'aliens' are human except fo rthe Asgard - a blunder which is found in Star Trek also. In Star Trek it is far in the future so there are Universal Translators, so it is possible to understand what the 'aliens's are saying. But Stargate is based on the present, how does one explain all the 'aliens' speaking perfect American English? On another issue Gouul'd are creoss betweeen Klingons and the Borg.. - imagine if there is a crossover episode in which the Borg encounter the Goul'd or the Replicators - who would win? Why is the US military using the Stargate? Stealing advanced technology from alien races - interesting. Nothing personall, but maybe you could watch Stargate a little before you post like that. You could answer a few of your own questions in an eppy or two Sci-Fi has it on every weekday. Four or even sometimes five times on Mondays Kapt~'-

It's an interesting point on the language thing in Stargate. During the first season they made an effort to present the language barrier in several episodes. But all the episodes would center around the language barrier if they kept it up.
What Stargate SG1 didn't do and some other series DID, was come up with a convenient reason why language wasn't a concern. The universal translator in Star Trek. The Babel Fish in Hitch Hiker's Guide. In SG1 they just decided that they weren't gonna worry about language anymore. The Jaffa still talk to each other in whatever that language is...Ancient Egyptian? But they talk to Earthers and other species in English. And if the discussion is something more complicated than "shoot him NOW!" or "Stop, You!" then the Jaffa and Goa'uld also use English. Take the discussion between Teal'c and Baal regarding an alliance to drive Anubis off Jonas' world. 100% English, though the discussion was between two Jaffa and a Goa'uld.
It would be NICE if the Stargate universe had a translation device or explanation for English being the universal galactic language. But, they didn't bother. The only explanation I've ever seen was in an interview that basically said "yeah we know, but it would make the episodes difficult and boring if we didn't ignore it."
What would have been so hard about inventing a universal translator device for SG1 to discover on one of the early offworld missions? Viola! Problem solved!

We watched "Avenger 2.0" and "Birthright" tonight.
Avenger barely counts as Star Trek-Gate, BUT...
It features the return of Felger, who was teamed up with Coombs (Dr. Phlox) in season 6 for a hilarious episode about 2 scientists who are far more suited for fandom than heroics.
At the beginning of the episode Felger gets O'Neil and Carter to come down and see his new weapon under development. O'Neil hopefully queries "Phaser?". Felger's faithful assistant replies "More like a Photon Torpedo".
Shortly, Felger announces "I present to you...the 22nd Century!" as he couples together the cables that power the weapon prototype.
Sparks. Lots of Sparks. And then all the lights flicker and go out. All over the SGC.
And that's just the beginning.
I won't say anymore especially about the hilarious dream sequence at the end of the episode. Felger has a very active imagination. The whole episode looks like it was huge fun for the cast and crew.
The following episode, "Birthright" had another Enterprise cast member. I was completely confused. The voice...the voice screamed Star Trek. The face...something about it. But who? Not Jeri Ryan. A BLONDE? WHO? Finally I closed my eyes and just listened to the voice.
T'POL! Poor Trip, moping around in season 3, infatuated with T'Pol, and what was she doing? Catting around on another SF series having a grand old time with Christopher Judge.
Jolene Blalok plays an Amazon warrior Jaffa named Ishta.
Judge wrote this episode, and it was another very good one. He really has his fingers on the pulse of what being Jaffa is all about (who would know better?).

I watched Heros Part 1 last night. It guest-starred Saul Rubinek, who was also a guest star on TNG. Remember the episode with the art-collector/pirate who just had to have Data for his collection? He seemed to be playing basically the same character on SG1. He wanted his way. Wheedle, threaten, trick, whatever...just get Data to sit, O'Neil to talk, whatever!
There was a fantastic run of dialog between the members of SG-13 who were off-planet...(from Gateworld.net)
SCENE: Still offworld, SG-13 walk by some trees.
DIXON: Yeah, all night screaming, projectile vomiting, nuclear diapers. You have no idea. The reason they make them so damn cute is so you won't smother them in their sleep.
WELLS: Sir, you have four kids.
DIXON: Yeah, why do you think I love my job so much? Don't get me wrong I love the little buggers to death but trust me, having four kids makes going through the Stargate and facing off alien bad guys look like nothing. This is relaxing.
WELLS: Then why'd you have four?
DIXON: Well, ones pretty bad but you figure you got to have two so the little guy can have a brother or sister right? Then you have two boys and the wife says she wants a girl, so you figure hell three can't be much worse than two right? But you don't relise your brain is fried because you haven't slept and after three, four is no big deal so then you're so deep in that nothing seems to matter anymore. Its chaos. You just try to make it through each day alive. In the end you spend all the energy you have left trying to get them into bed, only to lay awake praying they don't get hooked on drugs, hurt, or worse, wind up dead in an alley some where.
WELLS: Can't wait, sir.
DIXON: Ah miracle of birth my ass, I'll tell you what a miracle is birth control that works.
*********
My kids wonder why hubby and I were screaming in laughter. One day they'll know...
I really enjoyed watching a different SG team out there "exploring". The make up was similar to SG1 in terms of skill-sets, though obviously weren't the top-drawer team. Helps if you have a world-class astrophysicist, a formerly ascended linguist, and a Jaffa on the team!
Anyway, this group had the "old man", the "archaeologist" and a couple of muscles along for the fun. It was a nice touch. Hope they all survive Heros Part II. One of the muscles has a kid on the way (hence the above dialog). He was showing off his baby's ultrasound picture. I kept thinking..."Dead red shirt..."

Well paint me dumbfounded. Robert Picardo showed up in the finale of Heros...as a not-so-good-guy. I was really caught by surprise at the cast-member who did a swan song in this episode. NOT who I expected! Nothing more to say But it should be interesting to see the ramifications in the lives of the various members of SGC and family that result. Assuming those issues merit mention in the episodes.

Yeah. Very cool. Very interesting character, too. He was in the last 3 episodes of season 7. Haven't seen season 8, but I wouldn't be surprised to see more of him.

How sad, people running out good sci fi ideas - using the same ones just with different names and appearance.

Syborg, I think that Stargate has used Star Trek references in a good way. It's a "present day" series and part of the present day is the Trek fandom phenomenon and basic knowledge of what the various Trek weapons, etc. are called.
I imagine many groups of "real" scientists or Air Force operations makes references and jokes about Star Trek in much the same way.
I think people also enjoy seeing favorite actors from Star Trek series episodes make appearances on Stargate. I know I do. When I see one I can't place at first, it drives me NUTS!
