There are those who believe we are alone in the infinate universe, that humans are the only intelligent life out there, and there are those who believe we are but just one small part in an intergalatic community.
Which do you believe? Are there other beings out there, looking up at the stars wondering the same wonders we are? Or are there other beings out there who has far surpassed our own evolution and technology, who has the means to travel light years across the galaxy and visit us?
What reprocusions would Earth face if in fact is learned that we are not alone, and that we share the galaxy with mutiple species, intelligent and/or not?

Knowing how people on this planet behave and taking into account our affinity for blowing ourselves and other things up, I think we'd probably get into an intergalactic war. I have no faith in any world government when it comes to first contact with an alien race. I'd love to give an optimistic response to this one, but I have to go with my gut instinct. It would be total chaos, and we'd get our butts kicked.

But do you believe that there is other life out there? If so what kind?

Whether the universe is finite or infinite, it's so big that there has to be some other form of life than just the life on Earth. The odds that we are alone in this huge universe are pretty slim. As for what type of life is out there, who knows? I guess it all depends on the conditions of the planet they come from and how natural selection affected their evolution. I'd like to think they'd be humanoid and friendly and more advanced than us, but maybe we're going to be the aliens one day, visiting other planets and making crop circles! LOL! Who knows? In this crazy universe, I think ANYTHING is possible.

I have been discussing this particular question several times. To think that our planet is the only one that can sustain life, would be pretty arrogant. Just because we don´t yet have the technology to travel into outer space and go, where no one has gone before... LOL doesn´t mean that we are all alone. I for one know that you Earthlings aren´t alone. I am the living proof. But seriously, I cannot believe that there are not other planets in this vast universe, where life has developed.

I believe, with everything that I am, that there IS life out there. It's almost a mathmatical fact. I once saw a quote from a NASA scientist that makes perfect sence. I'll paraquote it, so my numbers are not exact, but you all get the idea "There are billions of stars in our galazy alone, trillions and trillions in our universe, that we know of. 1 out of every 20 stars has plantets that orbit it, so that gives us billions of planets out there, and if 1 out of every 1000 platents has life, then we would have thousands if not millions of worlds out there with life on it. Scientificly speaking, the events that brought Earth to be and brought life to be here, are one in 100 billion or something like that. Pretty impossable odds huh? Well bot if we look at them from an infinate point of view. Every sencond there is a 1 in 100 billion chance of events taking place to cause life, and this has happened at least once a second for billions of years, on a scale of infinity that is our universe." The numbers right there says there is life out there. now weather or not they are humanoid life is another matter. They could come in shapes and sizes we couldnt imagine. They may be like thge aliens from the Alien movies, dumb animals, oxygen and water could be posioness to them. The possabilities are endless! ~Myke

Talking about "Aliens", the trouble with humans is that from all the different life forms that could be out there, mostly only the worst kind is shown and, what would happen, if we ever encountered them. I love the "Alien" films and think they are great for entertainment but I find it rather worrysome that, given the opportunity, many people would rather shoot first and ask questions later if they would ever encounter an alien. Perhaps that´s the reason intelligent life form hasn´t yet made itself known to us. If only half of what supposed to have happened in Area 51 is true, then I feel very sorry for the human race and can understand that those aliens say to themself: "The human race isn´t yet worthy to know us - lets come back in 10.000 years." And off they fly, into infinite and beyond... T h e E n d PS: That reminds me: How about making a thread to discuss Area 51?

So very true on all points my friend. Even in Trek, worlds like our current Earth is undisturbed by the Federation, they do not allow themselves to be discovered by us, err, them. I think the anatomy of an alien would be facinating, it's likely they would be nothing like humans, as evolution would have evolved them to adapt to thier own enviornment, and with the possabilities being endless given the size of our universe, it's likey thier enviornment wouldnt be anything like Earth. We even have species here on EArth that seem alien like, such as those microbes that live in the deepest floors of the ocean, feeding off of sulfer vents. PS: That reminds me: How about making a thread to discuss Area 51? Sounds like an excellent idea, be my guest I have some ideas on that place as well! ~Myke

All right. I thought that perhaps you might want to start a thread about Area 51 but I can dig up some urls and display them for peeps to read up on. (I know how boring it is for members if they have anything more than a couple of paragraphs to read). LOL
And speaking of how ailien life looks in the oceans... You are so right, I have seen documentaries where they showed creatures you wouldn´t believe. But even on land, we have the most remarkle creatures in all shapes and sizes. We always assume that an alien planet should only host one specific life form when we have millions of different life forms right here on Earth. Lets say an alien ship comes to scout out Earth and doesn´t know that it is the humans who are suppose to be the smartest of them all. Now, looking at all those rather intelligent creatures on Earth, an Alien could get mighty confused as to whom to contact... They might decide that the largest creature is the one to talk to. Hmmm... maybe they tried to communicate with a giraffe and decided that Earth is too primitive to bother with just yet. LOL

LOL It wouldn't surprise me if they were to try to contact Whales, given the nature of Whale communications. Thinking of that, whose to say one form of intelligent life out there isn't what we would percieve to be an aqua life form. Perhaps living in oceans of amino acids How interesting it would be to make first contact with an alien race advanced enough to make the trip through seep space to reach Earth. If they are that advanced, think of the things the feel to be commen place, that would astound us, such as thier version of compters, TVs, ect. Or. .. .perhaps they are beyond such things as simple entertainment (ie: Television). ~Myke

If they have had anything like "Big Brother" on their planet, I wouldn´t blame them to have abolished TV. LOL
But unfortunately, people look at the alien business only with a human eye. Who is to say they have computers or TVs or any such things. I don´t see any other species on Earth needing any such things that humans need. Unfortunately, our minds can only imagine so much and no more and usually we imagine things from what we know, which in universal terms, isn´t much at all. We just can´t imagine anything that isn´t at least slightly familiar to us and which we can associate with.

So true, as little as 100 years ago, I doubt people could have imagined TV, moderan computers, sonic jets, ect. so just think of all of the commen place this that aliens could have, even if they are as little as 100 years ahead of us, or even 100 yeas behind us for that matter. Like you said, we only imagine things from what we know, they could have invented something that humans will never come up with.

I would like to think that somewhere out there, there IS intelligent life, But with a space program as slow and under-funded as ours, it's will probably be decade's before we launch a deep space exploration ship. Our slow Space program goes back to what i was saying about Starfleet

Only too true. And the reason is because we still have major problems right here on Earth for which a lot of money, time, effort and good man- and brainpower is needed. If we would be a peaceful united world, we might be able to concentrate on issues like a propper space programme and could use the money that is right now spent on feeding the public with false information, trying to squash the rumours that there are aliens, to prove that indeed there is life out there...
