Here's a brilliant thing from the movie Malice.
Alec Baldwin plays a gifted but arrogant surgeon who is sued for his malpractise, and at his trail, a lawyer accuses him of suffering from something called the God Complex - believing that he is infallible.
Baldwin gives a speech in his defense - but then he incriminates himself. He describes the tension and the pressure of surgery when a patient is lying on a table and he has to make split second decisions that determine life and death.
"At that moment, gentlemen," he says, "I don't think I'm God. I am God."
(Copied from: It's Not About the Bike [Lance Armstrong])
Well, I must agree with Baldwin on that one. Doctors are the Gods when it comes to life and death. They can cure people, just like Jesus did. They can let people live, and they can let them die. I think that makes them Gods.

A good joke:
One day a city was flooded, and to escape the waters a man climbed onto the roof of his house. The waters were rising, and a man in a boat came along.
"Jump in friend! I will rescue you," he said.
"No, you do not need to worry. My Lord will save me." So the man in the boat left. But the waters continued to rise. Soon, a helicopter flew over the man's house and dropped a line.
"Climb up friend! We will rescue you!" said the pilot.
"No, you do not need to worry. My Lord will save me." said the man on the house. So the helicopter left.
The waters continued to rise and eventually they covered the man's house and he drowned. When he got to heaven he approached God and asked,
"My Lord, why didn't you save me?"
God replied, "You idiot, I sent you a boat, a helicopter..."

It's not so much that he's stupid. This joke is putting forward the fact that people are too reliant on God. But the guy is pretty stupid ;D

Saying god is real may just be another way to gain power over people because it influences what they do etc. And i don't believe in god.

i know it controls what people do, but what does that have do do with anything? someone made up the concept of god cuz they felt like making people believe in something that they made up? i think thatd be kinda weird... there has to be a god out there somewhere... if you look closely you can see how everything happens according to god... even though its not really visible to those who dont look hard enough...

Plus it just seems wierd how life and everything else just out of nowhere started and sprang to life.

not wierd, planet earth was simply at the right position from the sun to support life, in condensed ocean an organic molecule was formed by collision with other molecues, so yeah things carried on from there

I just think of the anthropic principle.
Anyway, I see religion as a neuro-linguistic virus spread through the ages in different forms. Some tongues are more suitable for the transfer of the virus, but always it passes on. That doesn't necessarily mean that I am anti-religion at all, I can see that it has benefits. I was once a believer myself, until I studied to much science and found myself unable to believe.

science coincides with religion cuz both are truths and truths cant contradict so in a complicated way (maybe a little too complicated for our feeble minds ) everything that is absolutely PROVEN in sciene does agree with religion. some may disagree with this but there have been many cases where scientific facts have been proven wrong so just because a scientific fact outright goes against religion it doesnt mean this post isnt true... it probably means that fact is indeed not true....

Believing is different from knowing. Of course it is impossible to believe in the unseen - but plenty of things are unseen yet we accept them, of course there are people who say 'out of sight - out of mind' they don't care if anything exists or does not, as long as it does not affect them in some way. I know God exists I do not have to believe in His existence. (Throughout my life I have more than my share bizarre coincidences which defy explanation). One question if it can be answered would suffice- why is everything we know bound by specific 'laws of nature'? Only if someone considers ones soul seperate from ones own body - would understand knowing God. Is a clone the same person as the original or do both have seperate souls. To see God as a symbol of all that is good and satan his exact opposite - is like believing in two seperate all powerful entitities. God is the creator - to blame God when anything goes wrong and to decide not to believe in Him is absurd. Just because one chooses not to believe does not make God disappear. God and religion are seperate. Those who make religion a profession and make perform all kinds of rituals supposedly to please God is wrong. God is one entity above all things. No amount of rituals will affect Him. Those who create the perceptions about what God represents, using religion - when events occur which contradict them - faith is lost. It is upto each individual how he perceives God. However it is pointless to argue with people who have made up their mind whether they want to believe in God or not.
